My review policy is simple: If I wouldn’t trust it for myself, I won’t recommend it.
I know how important it is to have gear that you trust when you’re in the backcountry. I know the damage that bad equipment can do. And I know what it’s like to patch things up with duct tape, look for the nearest road crossing/outfitter, and hope your gear makes it that far.
If you see gear recommended on Sparks Hikes Mountains, it’s been tested (aka abused), and has proven itself worthy.
I choose the gear I write about based on what’s worked well for me, what I’ve been able to put through the wringer, and yes, sometimes to warn people about a product that just doesn’t work as well as it should. I’m not paid to promote gear.
